Submitted by Angie on Tue, 12/12/2006 - 1:08pm.One of the only two times I ever won anything (and I don't even remember what the other thing was, but I'm pretty sure there's two) was at a Sleestacks show where they had a raffle. I won a Gevalia coffeemaker! And the reason I got a sitter and was out that night was to celebrate the completion of a 10-page research term paper on coffee. That was also my first Sleestacks show. And the first time I saw Nay-Nay with no glasses, he was cute!
Raffle off your Godawful Xmas gifts. Oooh, red satin Playboy pj pants!

Submitted by Kapn on Wed, 12/13/2006 - 10:52am."GUH"? This from the person driven crazy by Chris Clark's "Love Gone Bad"? Mods without Tamla-Motown are like, um… mods without pills. Sub-standard "Northern Soul" got to get the vibraphones back to Motown, but I hope some of the DJ's find it in their hearts and collections to play us some of the Motor City's finest. "Big Chill" did to Motown what "Legend" did to reggae (right on Dingey, let's rock that "Train to Skaville" - and "007" is a must!).
I'm a-really gonna enjoy costumes.

Submitted by Kapn on Wed, 12/13/2006 - 4:33pm.Actually, Northern Soul DOES refer to where the music was made - soul produced in Motown, but also Chicago (like Curtis Mayfield productions), Philly, NYC, etc., is Northern Soul… Stax, Hi, Excello, etc., are Southern Soul brands. Original mods are usually referrin' to Tamla-Motown, Wigan Casino-to-present fanatics refer to Northern Soul. The original WC DJs looked for the rarest-ass stuff to play (they saved Frank Wilson's "Do I Love You" from oblivion - that is a FINE groove, Chris Clark did a version too), pickin' acetates, promo-only, lotsa cuts from super-tiny also-ran labels, which might have released some gems but were more likely releasing cuts that were only OK. Lots of "Essential Detroit Collections" and "Greatest Northern Soul Ever" comps trottin' out a few of those key cuts surrounded by lesser shots at the big time!
Great fuckin' flyer by the way.

Submitted by Nathan on Thu, 12/14/2006 - 7:09pm.I am confident that everyone that comes out will be beautiful and appropriate in their own inappropriate ways. Nothing is ever mandatory. Don't you just know it? I will be glittery and gold. I will be in sync with all sorts of themes. Many people will just plain show up, off the street and into our arms. They will be tipsy and goofy and happy. If not, we will help them get there. 2006 is the bald pony that wouldn't die. Guess what? It's going to. At midnight, I will kick that year clear to Teapot Dome.
Furthermore, the hand-picked disc jockeys will certainly not disappoint you. You've gotta have faith. Those guys know what they're doing. You might feel some sort of outrage, because the words describing all this don't match what you really want (soul or northern soul or ska or reggae or raga or ambient stomata or hyphy or dancehall or shovehate or dub or emo or biscuit-polisher or punter or bin-dovetail or dankhaven or deathcore or murderpunk or cialis or protocarpenters or whatever).
Shove a bunch of adjectives together and drive that train up your ass.
Harpy New Year!
