Ok, after copying down most of the bands from the ridiculous callings from last Friday nights radio show and digging for a second on the internet, I came up with this list of 111 bands mostly associated with Michigan. Thanks to people on here and elsewhere the list is up to 311 bands.
List of Kalamazoo area bands from the 50's to 90's.
Motherfuckers of the past decade have goddamn google and MySpace for help, the lazy fucks. Obviously forgotten, side projects, demo only, joke bands, shit like that is great.
Need more input please! I don't have encyclopedic mind like other greater music nerds, thank you and good times.
here, I'll start:

Aw come on, Useless. Phil A Sheo were a good time party band but they were legit.
Ok, they're back. Where
2 cents
1. There was a band based in Kzoo called the Gore Gore Girls before the Amy Gore version (Detroit). Or maybe they overlapped a bit, I don't know, but they were totally unrelated. The Kzoo version had J. Livingstone, Jeremiah Kitchen, the Zuidema Sistahs. That was circa 1993, I remember because I was at a basement show when I was about 40 months pregnant and Jeremy almost kilt my baby with his "stage" antics.
2. And it's LAPD Riot Midgets (plural).
(P.S. I only know this because of a journalism assignment I had at WMU a thousand years ago and because this shit's important to remember: There once was a band on the Soda calendar called Fat Amy. I think it stuck with me because the name is SO BAD. Seems to me that I knew they were local, I cannot confirm, though. You can pretend you didn't read this.)
A couple of the Bone China
A couple of the Bone China guys were from Battle Creek, but I think they were pretty much a Kalamazoo band. The Guitar player grew up right across the street from my house in Springfield. He was in some country covers band when he was like, 10 years old. We used to sit in his front yard playing Buddy Holly songs. That guy was a total Buddy Holy NUT! Mickey woulda loved him.

for more on the 60's garage scene check out a comp Norton put out called Friday At the Hideout. The Hideout was a spot in Detroit where a lot of these bands played and was a local label ran by Dave Leone who started the club. Also that Fenton Records box is a good source but damn its almost $60 for three records.
In all fairness to the list
In all fairness to the list of bands that I'm trying to compile, I'm looking for Kalamazoo bands (1 list) and Michigan punk/hardcore/wave bands (2nd list) from the past 30 years. Not sure if I'm up to the challenge of doing a Detroit based rock list. Motor City Rock already exists and they've got some good info there for the 80's and 90's bands.
Kalamazoo bands are the most fun anyways. Like:
One Hundred Million Dollars.
The Kalamazoo list is at 184
Kalamazoo List
This is very nice. I am very honored that the Port Wine Lads are listed right next to Purple Dave.
Here are some others:
Triple Nipple/Stunt Cops - Kalamazoo Punk "featuring" John Livingstone, Chris Monsma, Dee Ewing, John Barneveld, Scott Towne. 1993-5
Arnold, Rock, Kalamazoo
Edisons Fault - New Wave?, Kalamazoo
Rumpleforeskin, Kalamazoo dorm band, late 80s. Just the name should live on.
Dingey - Dizweema! thanks for giving the initial props to the Muskegon bands, I'll check that list out and see what I remember. BREMENS CRYING ON STAGE... hilarious. I saw that happen.
Covingtons, that was Hugh's band right.

Joey Division and Homo
Joey Division and Homo Picnic are fucking killing me!
I can't seem to put the Verve Pipe on there. I remember when I moved to Colorado with crappor for a hot minute and we were watching MTV in 1996 and the VP came on some show and Brian said that they were from Detroit. Fair enough, they just can't be on an esteemed list with Rob Cooley's Pants.
Tree
Christmas round my TV. I still listen to that cassette every December. Happy times. My favorite is the Twister song....
Joey division is a great name. Smart asss KCollege kids.
