I heard a track on a MOJO CD comp. Intrigued.

Mr. T (H#$den) zoinked me a copy. I couldn't stop listening to it for a couple of weeks. It's a little gimmicky… der.

believe me....

I had my doubts, too, and I[m very protective of beloved albums like "Sell Out," but I really really really like the Petra Haden.  I'm not sure why it works…perhaps because she's very un-Bobby McFerrin? It's actually really entertaining and fun.  Granted, there is the "why the hell…." factor, but it's a really genuinely enjoyable record.  She's got a gorgeous album out with Bill Frisell, too.  Petra's an odd girl..  She's Charlie Haden's daughter, for what it's worth.

sure, why not?

I know of two really good full-length album covers by "newer" bands that really work: Let It Be by Laibach (supposedly, Harrison really dug it) and Exile on Main Street by Pussy Galore. Those both work because they're radically different from the source. Haden's *sounds* like it's trying to sound exactly like the original, only done with mouth sounds… so, that makes me skeptical… but, heck, now I'm curious! thanks.

I say the best record that a band has done that was originally done by another band is Booker T. & The MG's McLemore Ave.  Its even better than Abbey Road.
