Jabberwock: Forward Sending/Off The Line

this single that I got on Friday actually had the Sinatras "Action Party" sleeve on the outside of it, I opened it up, and got Jabberwocked!

dingey's picture

ouch

sorry about that, man.  It was a very brief and inexplicable affiliation!

By the way, I think Jake's proto-leppo tag refers to items that pre-date the formation of Leppotonia by people and groups that would become Leppotonians.  In one form or another.

Don't Kill the Messenger

I'm sorry, but I gotta do it.

In re King Tammy - On Forbe's Stinking Eggs, Travellin' Butcher, My Town, Only Babies Cry, the spelling should be Forbis'. I'm looking at the CD cover right now, seriously.

Jake's picture

Doh.

Thanks, Angie. Fixed! So wait, there were to LT-002 7” releases? Who’s Jabberwock? And as far as I know, the “Criminals Like Cheeseburgers Too” tape was released before King Tammy’s affiliation with Leppotone. Does your copy have a “LTC” serial number? I think I remember buying my copy at Club Soda, and each cassette case was handmade and unique. So maybe mine just didn’t have the logo on it…
Ulysses S. Eater's picture

shit, it's in the trunk of my car with a comforter keeping it safe.

yeah, that jabberwock 7" has that catalog # on it and the other #, which is mysterious!

Jake

You amaze me with your knowledge.  Did you own all those masterpieces?  You could be the Bill Wyman of Leppotone (didn't Wyman keep all the Stones shwag)?

You mean to say that Bill

You mean to say that Bill Wyman was the merch guy at Stones shows while the rest of the guys were comparing how cool their jackets were?

The Sleestacks "Filler Er

The Sleestacks "Filler Er Up" tape looks pretty psych-o-delic based on the song titles. I'd like to hear that sometime.
Tree's picture

I'd like to expand this to a

I'd like to expand this to a discography of everything released involving any member of Leppoland.

Here's a few more Sinatras (and related) items.

The Sinatras first release was a DIY cassette compilation called "Tater Tots, AGAIN? on "Babs" records (Babs 001, I think?)

We had a few songs on a cassette called "Bill Bored Vandals" which was put together by Smelly Mustapha (aka Bill Bored, aka Jeff Griffin, aka a guy I went to High School with…) of Depression Records. I don't remember if it was a Depression Records release. Scott has a copy, he'd know.

Scott was on the very first Depression Records release, drumming for Toxic Attitude on "Stupid Teenage Music." ( DR 01) Released in 1985. TA featured not only future Sinatra/Pallbearer/Goldstar/New Real Person Scott, but also Matt Sage, future frontman for hardcore superstars Boom and the Legion of Doom! (I think that if more people knew about this record, it would be worth a bunch of money, what with the Legion of Doom's hardcore scene merging with world famous garage rockers F&M.)

The Sinatras song "When It's Over" was on Celluloid/Moving Target's "It Came From Jay's Garage" (1988 LP and Cassette, MT 019)

The Sinatras covered Henry Gross' song, Shannon, on Pravda's "20 Explosive Dynamic Super Smash Hit Explosions! (Pravda 6338, Feb of 1994)

The Sinatras song "Action Party" appeared on the 1996 CD only "Sasquatch: A Miranda Records Sampler"

What else is out there? Lot's more F&M stuff for sure. Anybody keep tabs on The Scary Tweezers?

dingey's picture

good work!

Good completist works!  Did "THE CITY" ever record?

There was also the Goldstar Live on WIDR CD, but that actually came out on Scratch-n-Sniff (hi pat!), as did some other King Tammy-related stuff like Fatty 2 x 4 and ….wasn't there a Loop-D-Loop recording at some point?  Brain fuzzy.

By the way Tree, are you now a larch?  Lovely new avatar!

Jake's picture

Almost

Mons, I had/have everything but the Scary Tweezers and the Kabalas cds.  I recently got rid of all my vinyl (with the condition that I can take it all back within three years), so I don't have easy access to that stuff.  But the tapes are in a box in storage in my basement, and the cds are handy.

Tim, I'm pretty sure the Fill 'er Up tape contains the same versions of the songs that are on the Leppotone Electrical Recordings cd, plus "Quetzacoatl."

Jake, in collectors circles

Jake, in collectors circles we refer to you as a Quitter. Or, worse, Divorced.

I'm not a religious man but let's all pray for your iPod's hardrive to never fail or for it to get stolen or sat upon.

Jake's picture

I know, I know. It's been

I know, I know. It's been almost a year, and it still hurts, but I miss it less and less everyday.  I visited it a couple months ago, and its current owner is giving it much more attention and love than I could…

Your note reminds me: time to make a backup…

Ulysses S. Eater's picture

i've got a few hundred gigs

i've got a few hundred gigs of .wav files that I ripped from my vinyl or mp3's that I've downloaded hanging out on my various drives.  I guess that would only be about 50 dvd's to back it up, fuck!

just the other day I was looking for my Motorhead hits 2xlp and realized that I had just sold it the past weekend.  Hell, now I have to pull out whole lp's to get to the songs I want.

ah Jake, in your blog you mentioned buying mass quantities of Alpert lp's, that's the lp I see the most of around the thrift stores.  That and this  Tennessee Ernie Ford lp, goddamn that one to fucking hades.  When a Little Marcy lp is dug up I rejoice.

Jake, you should really

Jake, you should really convert those cassettes to mp3s before time and decay renders them unlistenable.

Or give them to me and I'll do it. :)

Triplemint

Mark, I added the Triplemint cd.

Oh yeah, there was a King Tammy LP released, too.  What was the serial number on that?  I know it has "Superfriends" on it.  Sab, can you look?  It's between Carole King and the Kinks, I think…

But fuck me ripping cassettes!  These bastards need to burn CDRs from the original sources/masters!  Mons made me a fine 3-CD comp of Port Wine Lads stuff.  And Mark made me a fantastic Dazzleheads CD, too.

I should rip King Tammy's "Movin On Up" though.  That's badass.

Each LP came with one of five inserts featuring large artwork of one of the KT members next to smaller artwork of the other four (drawn by Brent Harris) next to the exclamation, "LUCKY YOU!  You have received the (BAND MEMBER) edition of this record!  Collect 'em all!"… LP credits are listed at the bottom of the insert.

I'm really unclear about the inclusion of Sinatras on the "Bill Bored Vandals" cassette.  The only BBV cassette I've ever heard doesn't feature us, but does feature Toxic Attitude (Scott's pre-Sinatras outfit) live cuts.  If BBV was a tape series, I never got a copy of the edition featuring Sinatras, and have no idea what cuts are included.  Please clarify, Tree!

Given more free time at some later date, I'll add some missing info on Leppotone family artists' releases (the City didn't release anything but someone has a tape of one performance), etc.

UE - I'd be glad to give you the correct Sinatras LT-002 single - I grabbed a bunch of singles to sell from my carrying case and didn't inspect what I was grabbing.  I might REALLY want that Jabberwock single back if it's the only one I had (I'll explain what I know about the two LT-002s later).  I hope no one got any of my test pressings!

King Tammy cassette

I convinced King Tammy to write me a song for my 20th birthday, which I played every 10 minutes on my 20th birthday WIDR show. I wish I could find the cassette that contains it, as King Tammy members now look at me blankly when I mention it. But it really happened! I probably have the "disciplinary note" from WIDR to prove it!
Tree's picture

NOT BBV...

Okay, I was wrong, we weren't on Bill Bored Vandals.

We were on "My Scene Rules," which was another Depression/Smelly cassette only thing. I think. I'm gonna write to Smelly and find out for sure if that's the one.  Maybe you're asshole ain't the first thing that goes after all.

i need help ripping tapes because my normal method of ripping lp's: turntable -> receiver -> usb amp -> hardrive  doesn't seem to work for me.  and my $300 (back in the day) Pioneer dualey has a bad deck and it seems to be fucking up my speeds.  booooo!

Kapn's picture

I'm an ass

UE, I don't have another copy of the Jabberwock single. However, finders keepers rules, and recalling my stance regarding "the seller ought to know what the fuck he sold" many forum posts ago, karmically speaking I deserve it. I still owe you the Sinatras single.

Maybe you'd like to trade the Jabberwock single for my copy of "No Remorse"?  It has a slight chunk missing from the edge of the vinyl on record #1, which doesn't affect "Ace of Spades" on side 1 but cuts into the opening of "Bomber" on side 2.  Not the faux-leather cover edition either, but it's minty save for the missing chunk.  Which Lemmy would approve.  Actually, Lemmy did it.  Yeah, that's how it happened.  Lemmy tried to break it over my head.  SOOOOPER collectable.
