one of my most ridiculously favorite cartoon/authors ever, Lynda Barry, is now giving two-day workshops, ostensibly about writing, that help you get in touch with creativity and overcome mental blocks and SHIT. I think she is just what my voodoo doctor ORDDERED. Therefore, i am going to her just-announced class in CHICAGO at the end of August! WHOOT! I am really super-geeked.
here is a recent interview with some class info:

is she my doppelganger?!

Yea Marlys
L. Barry rocks my ass. I can’t remember the gist of the entire comic, but my favorite is the one where Marlys calls a teacher at school a "tube".
turkey in the haaaaaaaay
my first exposure was in the mid-80’s, when there was a Detroit-based funny zine called "FUN" that ran Ernie Pook’s Comeek. Or maybe it was in the Metro Times? I dunno. A classmate brought a stack of papers for me and I saw the one where Marly’s mom told her she could get anything she wanted from the catalog and despite her cousin’s protestations, she opted for "LITTLE MISS RUBBER MOLDED GLAMOUR WIGS."
"I told Marlys them rubber glamour wigs weren’t gonna be no good, but when they came, they were even worse than we could have imagined. Like Kal-Tiki the immortal monster. Like old gum in the dirt. Fortunately, my brother Arnold immediately thought of a perfect game to play with them called DIE MONSTER DIE in which your head gets totally deformed…."
Oh Dingey, that's SWEET!
Best. NYT. Interview. Ever
Seriously, that was a great article. And it sounds like an awesome workshop! If the universe does explode, then it will full of fun and quirk.
Quark.
Quack.
Yay!
Hooray Dingey! That’ll be a great time and a good kick in the pants to boot. High-fives for you!
There's a fun and funny
There’s a fun and funny little interview with Linda Berry in the latest Venus magazine.
haw haw!
More like a metrosexual
More like a metrosexual intellectual, I’d say.
Well?
How was it?
Got your creative juices flowing again?
YES YES YES!!!
It was TOTALLY AMAZING. Seriously. Right now I’m still too slammed at work (we are permanently short one person in our department now—they trimmed some fat and now the rest of us are buried) to go into much detail—more later! In the meantime, enjoy some photos and ramblings:
