Master Gardener - help needed!!

Wizzybit,

I just got this e-mail from my sister, the details are really sketchy, so I can't read more about this (like are there photos somewhere, is it lethal, should I dry it and smoke it?)...have you heard anything about this? Are the M.G. talking about this?

-----------paste------------------------------
a quick message to say that we read an article about a new poisonous plant
that is much worse to our bodies than poison ivy -- it looks like a GIANT
queen ann's lace plant -- so if you see it, STAY AWAY!  It has been
confirmed as being in Michigan, including Kalamazoo county if I remember
correctly....

I've heard of this....

...unfortunately, that's about all I can tell you.

Oh rusty rusty brain....

I read (probably) the same article, and I think it's called Giant Hogweed. Scary! Giant! HOG! It causes horrible scars.

I always like to point out that queen ann's lace can look like poison hemlock, too.

And to think I used to eat queen ann's carrots all the time (the root), just to freak out the other kids.

Just to make it official:

MSU information. I am now counting this for 30 minutes of research.

what the...

"Don’t allow children to play in giant hogweed. They may sometimes use the long, hollow stems for telescopes or peashooters."

You mean to tell me these things form some sort of lens array within their stems?! Remarkable, my good man! Simply remarkable!
