Did anyone else smell that smell this morning around 7:30 am... I was at what used to be Stop n' Go on Lovell, not sure what it is now, maybe CircleK. I got out of my car and that entire portion of Kalamzoo smelled like a Giant Salami Sandwich. It just hit me how strange life can be and how my life was just like the Gift of the Maji but with a set of entirely different circumstances.
My wife is going to see Iron Man on Friday with friends from work. She said I was welcome to join them but I think I'll decline. You see I just spent most of my disposable income for the next 2 weeks on a birthday gift for her. I could go, I could swing it, but then I'll be completely broke for most of 2 weeks afterwards and I really hate being completely broke. Even having 2 dollars in my pocket is better than being broke because if I really want a goddamn coke I can get it, even though in that situation I wouldn't because then I'd just be broke again and I hate being completly broke. Life will always throw someting at you and I have to be more choosy about my opportunities these days.
Today I saw a Nady wireless system for $25.00 at WMU's surplus sale. I could have bought it but then again I'd be completely broke right away. If I were currently in a band that decision may have been different, but I'm not as we're on hiatus for the moment. I always wanted a wireless system, looking back I realize that that would have only led to masturbatory Winger-esque posturing and all-around douchebaggery. In short I was saved from myself by my own poverty.
But I digress, it's really about Iron Man... and my wife--the same woman who does not share my love for Trek or Sci-fi--is going to see this movie, it just seems so Wrong. I ask you this: Will she truely understand the subtle underpinnings of choosing Robert Downy Jr. for the role? I say nay, though she may be hipped to Tony Stark's alcoholism by her work friends, maybe they read about it in some hipster magazine but I was there with Tony in highschool feeling his pain.
I ask you, will she remember when he was a paraplegic? Will she remember watching Exoman and thinking "hey this is just an IronMan rip-off"... I doubt it. Will she remember when other guys wore the suit?
I wonder who is next? Gambit?
