towards the begginning of winter....the boys of minor street...in a stupor of sorts im sure....realised that we all....ALL...had slot car tracks at home...on the return of xmas break we all added forces....creating a massive track...MASSIVE....i hipped everyone up on how to gain traction by inverting masking tape around your finger and applying said sticky side to all the tires....many a night of bizongers and cries of "LETS BUILD A NEW TRACK!!!"....sigh.....eventually we started modifying our auto bodies....setting things on fire....fire crackers....that sort of fun....

you know you're a nerd when...

... you actually go to "the authorities" to ask permission to build an add-on to your house that's large enough to hold your dream slot car track.

The track is cool, another hallmark of nerd, always striving to achieve the ultimate, and the coolest.

I have to admit I know nothing about this Catan thing. Looks like Tetris.

I only had 1 or maybe 2 real

I only had 1 or maybe 2 real and brand new slot car tracks growing up, but did get some cool tracks from garage sales and shit.  Some 60's or 70's snowmobile set was fucking bad assed in the Dalesburg basement.

Saw some retro Sizzlers, the lil cars you charge up with some D-cells via a line-in looking plug and let them zoom around a banked, black track, at Target a year or so ago.

Jehova's witness bros down the street had the coolest setup in the early 80's that I saw, a few tracks in their basement.

Dutch herc had a decent H-O scale model train in his basement in middle school when I met him but the litter box wasn't changed and his kitty RC pissed all over the little astroturf village.   Big  harryhausen kitty destroyed Dutch Walnut Grove.

I can only remember having one that was "mine", well my younger brother and me.  When I was younger my older brother had a track but we were not allowed to play with it, so we drove our hotwheels cars on records while they spun on the hifi.   When I finally got a track I remember it being just a simple oval, but there was some sort of gimmik to it that I can't remember, either you could switch from track to track or you could spin your car around 180 degrees and go the other way, some sort of chase deal maybe a Dukes of Hazzard thing.  My best friend had a tyco with glow in the dark action that was the bomb when I'd stay over and my neighbors got a huge flex-track deal one year with the turn that went up on the wall.  Fun stuff.   I've currently got portions of 2 different tracks in my basement from garage sales.  We had one working for a while but my boys trashed the controllers through carelessness.  Maybe I'll set up a room in the barn for racing/trains  hmmmmm.

I think maybe I just peed a little.

Slot cars are one of those smells that is totally Proustian for me.  Like a fresh box of Crayolas freshly cracked open, sparklers, and paper-roll caps.
