Six-Word Reviews of 763 SXSW MP3s

Unlike many of you, I rarely get a chance to listen to newish music, but today I've had a very healthy dose thanks to Paul Ford's article. I have not listened enough to make recommendations, but I thought I should share, nonetheless. Favorite review so far:
Disneyesque noodling spoiled by indie rambling.
The whole thing is punctuated with statistics on band names and charts and longer observations like this one:

This song by Born in the Flood is inexcusable. Consider: (1) It is called “Anthem,” and it is an anthem. (2) It sounds like Bono and the Edge riding around on Sparklehorses. (3) I can’t understand the lyrics but there’s a crown mentioned. It was heretofore considered impossible for any singer to overcome these cognitive challenges in order to create a distinct and memorable song. And yet this man does exactly that.

Or to put it another way: When you were 23 and living alone without many friends and definitely no girlfriends, did you ever jerk off and cry at the same time? This is your song.

For your listening pleasure, please enjoy the reviews and links to a huge number of songs by currently active music-types that played at SXSW this year.

Here lies the music.

Captain Ahab!

OK. My current happy-time-super-favorite is Captain Ahab's "I Cant' Wait for Summer."

This list will probably kill most of tomorrow for me, as well. I'm only up to the letter "C."

That is GREAT

"Music for your Donkey Kong lifestyle."

I might need to get that band's 45......
