Yeah I think Obama handled

Yeah I think Obama handled this perfectly, but its not over yet.  The media and his opponents will naturally turn this into a big race issue.  The test will see how Obama handles the fallout from that.

Criswell Predicts!

Criswell predicts that Republicans and right-wing groups will use the preacher over and over in ads in October.

But it's all coming out now because they'd rather face Clinton in the general election. They have been collecting the goods on her for decades.

paddle's picture

the mccain campiagn wont

the mccain campiagn wont bring this up in october.....

mccain has had some interesting endorsements from kook ass preachers....

of course the right wing talkies will harp away....hypocrisy is a way of life for these constipated microphone humpers...

I read the text of Obama's

I read the text of Obama's speech and it seemed pretty honest and straightforward.  Two adjectives that I would never use to describe Hillary Clinton.  Shit, she would have put out some kind of 'I didn't inhale' type bullshit or just simply kicked the pastor to the curb.

My prediction:  McCain is our next president, get used to it.  If Obama wins the nomination he will be Mondaled and Dukakisized, marginalized by the GOP as an inexperienced dreamer (and of course a closet Muslim).  If Hillary gets the nomination, prepare to hear about socialized (or socialist) medicine, Travelgate, Wellesley lesbians, or whatever other tricks the GOP can pull out of her '35 years of experience'.  Either way we get McCain.  Heads I win, tails you lose.  The Democrats fucked up again.

On a personal note, I will not vote for Hillary Clinton.  I admire Obama greatly and I think he repsresents a force and an ideal that is outside traditional politics.  Almost a Nader in the romantic sense, at the very least a Eugene McCarthy/Bobby Kennedy/Bill Bradley type.   However, I loathe the Clintons and at this point would rather see McCain in there than Hillary.  I'm sure there are many Democrats that feel the way I do, which makes the idea of a convention brokered for Hillary by superdelegates or primary do-overs very unattractive.

The Audacity of Hopelessness

Gee, I hope you're not setting your hopes too high, Herb.
Samantha Stephens's picture

Herb on what a lot you said

Herb on what a lot you said I agree with.  I am no fan of Hillary Clinton myself and I want to make this clear:  Its not because she is a woman.  I couldnt care less if she were a woman or an elephant, I dont think she is right for the job.

One thing I noticed is that while Obama's race and his affiliation witht this preacher have been news, there hasnt been much talk about McCain's age.

dingey's picture

huh?

HERBALICIOUS!

It worries me that you are so dedicated to the concept that there is absolutely no hope for a chance of positive change.  Why are you so sure that McCain will win?  I don't get it.  I think a huge part of Obama's appeal is that he DOESN'T hew to same old shitty political game of sinking immediately to the lowest common denominator and trying to denigrate everyone else rather than speak to the issues.  I also think that people are sick of politics that result in "Mondaling" or "Dukakasing" of any of the candidates, and I don't think the majority of people are gonna buy that shit anymore.   I also don't think the American people are blind to the fact that "Walnuts" MCCain has been purchased at this point.  He's not the same candidate who ran before.  He's a drone now, everybody knows that.

It's NOT 1968.

Why the hopelessness?  Why so negative in the face of potential positivity?  What do you have to lose, exactly?  Justifcation for a gloomy worldview?

I guess, especially on this

I guess, especially on this day, the 5th anniversary of our attack on Iraq, that I would rather set my expectations low and and at least reconcile myself to how much that might suck than to set my expectations any higher to only be very disappointed.   You all should know me well enough by now that my view of this has some nuance and subtlety to it and at the core there I do feel hope.   Obama is perhaps the most exciting presidential candidate I have witnessed in my own lifetime.  I can imagine the energy people must have felt about JFK in 1960 because what I see here is very similar.  And I do hope that the American people, or at least 51% of them, feel the same way and truly are over the bullshit politics of the past 20 years (the Clinton-Bush years).  I really want to believe the era of Karl Rove is over.

However, at this point Obama does not have the nomination.  And the forces behind Hillary Clinton sicken me as much right now as Bush did in 2004 with the Swift Boat crap.  Is Obama a Muslim?  'As far as I know' he's not.  'McCain and I are equipped to be Commander in Chief'.  'Jesse Jackson carried South Carolina'.  'Obama wouldn't be getting all this attention if he were white'.  This bullshit is coming from within my own party.   If she ends up being the Democratic nominee what's the fucking point?

Hillary, the annoying turd that won't flush

Say it from the rooftops with me

"Hillary, the unflushable turd".

This should be her nickname, If you want a good woman candidate run my Governer instead of this chicken-stuffed reverse carpet bagger.  But since my Governer is busy running my State, I likes me sexy Obama.

Bat Guano's picture

Run to Canada, Hippie

If you get into politics you have to be ready to get shit on every four to two years. If you can't take it, move to Canada!

It's still March. Usually we'd have a good idea now who the nominee will be and -- oh, look! It's going to be Obama. The reason we think we're not quite sure is the shitstorm of shit the Clintons are throwing in the air in a desperate attempt to convince some superdelegates to swing their way. If Clinton gets something that averages out to 65% of the vote in every one of last states, she might be able to pull it off.

And she will, as long as people KEEP BEING PUSSIES!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, that's not proper, I'm not calling anyone here pussies, that just goes out to the Democrats who keep losing.

Dukakas -- pussy. Mondale -- pussy. Kerry -- pussy!

Obama -- Oh, look. He's not ignoring attacks like Kerry and the Swiftboaters, he's not just denying it or pullng some other calculating stunt. As John Stewart said last night, "at 11 a.m. today, an American politician talked about race as if we were adults."

He's done stuff before where he'll defend himself, put the scuffle into the context of the big picture, and cooly turn the dagger back at the attacker. Poink! He's no pussy.

In the above list of pussies I did leave out Bubba Clinton. He was also a master, one of brutally accurate cold calculation. I liked him as president -- not love, liked. Better than a Republican. But this time around with Hillary they've gone overboard. Psycho. Starting when Obama began winning. This was HER TIME!!! Everyone agreed! And suddenly this upstart (uppity) beats her with his speeches and his supporters and all their little donations adding up to millions more than what she was getting... Something snapped.

Anyway. You just better run to Canada if you can't take it, hippie.

"chicken-stuffed"?!

Is this a dietary reference or what? I think I might have to put that in my pipe and smoke it!

chicken-stuffed

chicken-stuffed is a ref to Tyson corp's questionable campaign contributions to Mr. Clintion back when he was first running for office ;p

Bat Guano's picture

Take your heart pills.

This story might bring some hope, but also some anger... I know Herb always reads this socialist commie rag, so it may be too late to warn him. NYT: "Clinton Facing Narrower Path to Nomination"

In the story, unnamed Clintonistas (jebus h christ, why am I suddenly using '90s dittohead terms? have we sunk this low?) "had hoped that the uproar over inflammatory remarks made by Mr. Obama’s longtime pastor that has rocked his campaign for a week might lead voters and superdelegates to question whether they really know enough about Mr. Obama to back him. Although it is still early to judge his success, the speech Mr. Obama delivered on race in Philadelphia to address the controversy was well received and praised even by some Clinton supporters."

These unsourced swine got Wright, Wright, Wright all through the story, and must have admitted that they were hoping the angry angry black preacher would take Obama down.

Story ends: "Mrs. Clinton’s advisers said they had spent recent days making the case to wavering superdelegates that Mr. Obama’s association with Mr. Wright would doom their party in the general election.

"That argument could be Mrs. Clinton’s last hope for winning this contest."

Clinton Gets Maximum Pinocchios from Wash Post

The Pinocchio Test

Clinton's tale of landing at Tuzla airport "under sniper fire" and then running for cover is simply not credible. Photographs and video of the arrival ceremony, combined with contemporaneous news reports, tell a very different story. Four Pinocchios.

Clinton Disses Sinbad

Has she no shame?!?

According to Sinbad, who provided entertainment on the trip along with the singer Sheryl Crow, the "scariest" part was deciding where to eat. As he told Mary Ann Akers of The Post, "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'" Sinbad questioned the premise behind the Clinton version of events. "What kind of president would say 'Hey man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife. Oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you."

Replying to Sinbad earlier this week, Clinton dismissed him as "a comedian." Her campaign referred me to Togo West, who was also on the trip and is a staunch Hillary supporter. West could not remember "sniper fire" himself, but said there was no reason to doubt the First Lady's version of events. "Everybody's perceptions are different," he told me.

Washington, 1996

"There was a saying around the White House... If a place was too small, too poor or too dangerous, and the President couldn't go, send the First Lady." --Hillary Clinton

In the State Department, 1996:

"We need to send in the President!"

"But it's too dangerous! Who else has the power of the President, yet is expendable?"

"There can be only one who fits that criteria! THE FIRST LADY!"

"But what if she takes a hit?"

"We'll send Chelsea as back up."

Thank you people for editing

Thank you people for editing down the past week of talk radio and cable news with the past 2 videos.  Shazam!

I have a new rumor for the Fox News: Obama was McCain's love child.  I said it, it's true.

Did you see the footage of Hillary and Chelsea ducking and running from the sniper fire....

this is beautiful... I'm really enjoying watching this unravel

Now I'm R****** B***** Mad

There was a time when this all started that I thought, Clinton's not my first choice, but, yeah, I could vote for her with some mild enthusiasm (like the enthusiasm I feel for watching reruns of "Seinfeld" when nothing better is on).

But now I'm just pissed. Spittin' mad. R****** B***** mad.

To change the subject from her "misstatements" on her Bosnia trip, Clinton has torn the scab off the Wright bruhaha, and she's done so with the help of Richard Mellon Scaife. You know, the guy who helped spread rumors that she had Vince Foster murdered, "funder of the Arkansas Project, the American Spectator during its prime Clinton-hunting years and virtually every right-wing operation of note at one point or another over the last twenty years or more," etc. A guy who you'd think would be her mortal enemy. Here are the details, including a photo of her sitting with Scaife as she innocently takes his rag's questions.

But you know, she was just answering a paper's questions. Honestly, she'd never hang out with some hate-speecher like Wright...

QuantumNoise's picture

Terribly Overrated....

I think all this preacher/sniper stuff is terribly overrated. And all these papers and television shows should be ashamed of themselves. They devote all this time to utter inanity, while never asking these candidates really meaningful qeustions. Of course, that's not news.

dingey's picture

I KNOW!

I've been trying to ignore most everything.  I'm SO sick of the corporate-owned media and their insistence on dogging every tired-ass snipe hunt that comes up.  Bark! Bark!  Bark!  Shut them dogs up! I have become very fond of BBC America's news broadcasts.  I learn so much more about what's happening in our country from the foreigners!

How the hell are you, Quantum!  Long time no speaky!
