I admit I’m confused about the moniker over at the Double JJ Ranch - are they two Js or four Js?  Two JJs are dyno-mite!

Seriously

If someone said that I had to either go to this festival, or eat a turd,  I’d want to know how big the turd was.

Is this replacing the Seaway Polka Festival

Wow, that is a fancy website for a hippie festival outside of Muskegon.  I liked the directions from Japan.  Oh, and make sure you stop at the Bill Knaps while driving through Muskegon.  maybe they  will hang with the migrant workers in Hart for the day.  Are there any local bands playing?

lets say the size of a cantaloupe……would you eat that…granted…i would let you consume it in portions…just as long as it was consumed by the first day of the festival…..if not…i’d buy your ticket….and kick your ass in through the front gate….waiting outside the whole time to make sure you didnt try to escape….

Bettye Lavette’s from Muskegon.

I’m kinda surprised there’s no interest in some of the acts here… granted, I didn’t think anyone was the jam-band type around here (unless it’s VU or Stooges or you’re QN), and few of us tend to wear our social activism on our sleeves, so would likely be dismayed or amused by the "get involved" aspects of the fest… and yeah, there’s the price, the searching, the resort… but musically, there’s a lot more goin’ on than hits for quasi-hippies.

Bettye Lavette kicks soul ass.

Saw her at a bloooze concert. Some people were cranky that she wasn’t bloooze enough. They failed to see that she was like, if, say, Tina Turner got rid of Ike long, long ago and never went into the "What’s Love Got To Do With It I’m Your Private Dancer" phase.

I don’t like such fests because they are, in general, a filthy expencive nightmare.

filthy expense

Quite true.  For some reason, part of me wonders what it would be like to go to a fest because I’ve never been (though I suppose I could count the Las Vegas Rockaround, which was really more like a Star Trek convention).  Never been to Lollapalooza, never been to Pitchalooza, Glastonburied-in-the-mud, Woodstock IV, none of ‘em.  I probably wouldn’t have the patience, but never having been, I’m likely to romanticize such events.

Then I remember "Homerpalooza".  "Hate crime!"

who's a narc?

"That fat Jamaican dude!"

Other much quoted moment:

"Karma.  KARMA." (said by tatooed, pierced alt-rock boy while angrily pointing at tip jar.)

Homer:  "Ooooh-hohoho.  I get it."  (walks away)

The line up looks more

The line up looks more varied than I initially expected. I do like The Juan McLean. He’s a former 6 Finger Satellite gone electro. It still looks really poopy. Festivals don’t appeal to me at all unless they are free or close to it and I have the freedom to come and go. Even things like the SSW or CMJ which are spread out to specific venues don’t sound like fun. If I’m going to Austin or NYC I’d rather check out the sights rather than see a bunch of bands for 5 nights in a row who will most likely be in the midwest at some point. I guess about the only festivals (outside of Greek fest or food fests or Octoberfest) that sound interesting to me is the Detroit Electronic Fest. That’s fun just to wonder around Hart Plaza and check out all the different stages. Electronic music bleeding together in the outdoors for some reason isn’t as nearly annoying to me as rock band overlap. Plus it’s good people watching and you can look across the river and see the promised land…….Canada.

You are perfectly right

You are perfectly right about this, we have to give Tina Turner some credit for that, she is a great artist of our century and that’s all I need to know.
