Hey, I know those guys.

While checking in on a site that guides me to bittorrenting old albums and retro things, I see Konquer Kampus by Fortune and Maltese.

You know you've made it to somewhere when some guy (likely a European) is making your obscure album available for sharing with record nerds.

whoo hoo!

KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

Man....and his previous posting was about that crazy compilation with joe E Ross on the cover. I first remember seeing that in maltese's posession back in the early 90's.....my delicious brains are all awash in golden sentimentality right this second....it's blinding! blinding!

WHERE'S THAT CRAZY PHAT DOWNLOADING MONEY?!?!? ROYALTIES! ROYALTIES! WHERE ARE THE FAT ROYALTY CHECKS THAT SHOULD BE FINANCING OUR MYRIAD TRIPS TO WINE COUNTRY ETCETERY? AND YOU KNOW I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND FINANCING FOR MY GRILLZ! I EXPECT TO BE KEPT, ROCKSTAR!

We've also seen KONQUER advertised at ridiculous prices on e-bay...which is puzzling since it's still in print....

Who is Mickey?????

If you are talking about one MickeyMac, he is no longer on this board.  You can find him on his myspace page, the UFO board or sometimes the Goner board.  That said, Angie I will pass along the message about the Knaught Knight single to him, I am sure he would like to have that.

I'm "partial" to quoting

I'm "partial" to quoting people that haven't even said the shit that you put in quotation marks.  I should edit a church circular, I got spare time and glass miniatures of elephants and toads doing things humans don't give a fuck about: wearing bonnets, flying kites, posing for Saturday Evening Post covers.

Fudgetunnel?  Like the

Fudgetunnel?  Like the grindy metal band?  That's HOTT.  Did Erin Warner drawer that cover?

Kapn's picture

eight bucks?

Heck, I got a sealed cassette copy at the Maple Hill Record Town for 50 cents about 10 years ago!

Don't know about Fudgetunnel, but I know it's not the same Sponge that alt-rocked 'merica in the '90's.  There's some kind of note on the back of the LP indicating that members of Sponge and Fudgetunnel had formed a new band called Spongetunnel.

Except for ours, all the bands were from Chicago.  (Spies Who Surf and The Farmers also share space with us on the K-tel tribute.)  Our track did not come from Jay's actual garage (also in Chicago), however - we recorded there, but the folks putting the LP together decided they didn't like our garage recording so much (of which we have a rough quality dub - "master" never got made from the recording source, a Betamax tape, I think!?!... the video player was rigged up with some other equipment to allow 8-track recording).  They didn't throw us off the project, though, opting to use one of our '87 Indianapolis recordings, produced by Paul Mahern (who is credited).

It sure does look like a Warner comeek!  Not him, though.  Did I ever tell you about the time CG and I got AW into the comic biz?  A Total Television production.

Ok lets turn this back to

Ok lets turn this back to Fortune & Maltese for a sec

Any word about them playing a show at all this year??

I've only seen this cats three times and that aint enough!!

Fortune & Maltese - Oh yeah

Fortune & Maltese - Oh yeah alright {7'' single; vinyl rip} [2004/FLAC/Lossless]

 Fortune & Maltese - Girl's gotta learn {7'' single; vinyl rip} [2004/FLAC/Lossless]

i ran across these a while back and mentioned it to the kap at the time. the poster had originally listed the artist as "Fortune Maltese", but i suggested he edit the details which he has done. good on him.

i have a couple of other issues with the way these were posted, but i'm just gonna focus on one because i type slowly ...

there was no description of the band or the music included with the post other than it being categorized as "garage". gee that's swell, but tell me more. i've never heard of these guys and i'm curious oranj. the bloggers will usually take the time to post extra info, reviews, etc. and that's great. the majority of quality music bloggers seem to be in it because they love the tunes and are trying to give the bands a boost.

the posting guidelines for my torrent site (one of the oldest trackers on the interweb) contains the following:

"Be sure to include a description of the music. This can be an album review cut'n'pasted from another source. But be sure to give us something that gives an idea of what the music sounds like. Descriptions like "this band totally rocks" or "you should download this" are NOT sufficient!"

i guess the bone i'm picking at amounts to this: promote the damn band. spend an extra 60 seconds and help them make a sale, get a warm body into a show, sell a t-shirt, something.

Wait, what?

I'm not getting it, but then my mind is not exactly up to par right now. Where is the band (F&M) supposed to be describing their music? Did they mistype their own band name? Were they the ones who posted something somewhere but didn't bother to write a description? Because I'll do it; I have stuff I can copy and paste.

Kapn's picture

description's in the speakers!

It's unlikely - though I don't know for sure - that F or M posted these 45 music files to u1oo's bit-torrent site, just as it's unlikely F or M or any PPs posted KK on the site the Bat came across.  Official F&M downloads are as available as the Sinatras catalog right now (actually, less available, since Sinatras do have a few legit downloads out there).

I've come to terms with the fact that, when music I've made is floating around on the net, I don't stand to earn a lot of money from it.  It's nice to see suggestions to those who post music files to give good, descriptive info that would encourage those accessing the downloads to seek out the live act, visit their official site, get their merch.  Someone who came to an NRP show noted they'd already found Demonstration on a torrent site, but at least they bought a shirt.  I don't think they bought the disc, though.

For the record, the "Girl's Gotta Learn" EP is ascribed to "Fortune and Maltese" - no Pallbearers.  F&M had some tracks they did with the help of some other r'n'r friends (the title track is all F&M with Amy Gore on drums) - not sure if Get Hip was clamoring for more F&M music, or if they wanted to make sure there was some release of the EP tracks that appeared in Pervert (starring adult film icon Mary Carey), but whatever the case was, the 7" went out in the summer of '06.  It rocks - you should totally download it!

"Ghoul's Delight"

My fellow Pallbearers - didja know about this release?  I didn't!  But I'm not on it either.

This "gift set" version of it sold out!

the titles i stumbled upon weren't posted by anyone affiliated with the combo. shit, they even had the artist name wrong.

and yeah if you have some pasteable adjectives and such, i'd be glad to stick 'em on those torrents along with some info on were to buy more F&M stuff. msg me or do the email thing.

Kap'n i went ahead and grabbed those torrents. the audio quality is top notch and they do indeed rawk.
