My second Chemistry Dept. has a weird, incomprehensible plan / tradition of giving grad students a series of competency exams in different subject areas once a month on Friday nights for two hours, if you can @$#% believe it. I was previousy volunteered on some list I didn’t review carefully to proctor the exam tonight from 5-7. So I will not be attending dinner tonight. Have a beer for me.
