Fantastic Mr. Friday

I’m in a conundrum - Some of us had discussed going to see Fantastic Mr. Foxypants today and then a hojo trolly ride, possible tree lighting ceremony, etc… All of which I really really want to do.  However, Kap’n has to work until his usual 5:30.  Movies are 3:25 and 7 somethingish, which makes it difficult for us to do everything. Oh yeah, dinner must be had in there somewhere.

I just wanted to put our situation out there and am willing to rearrange or go it alone.

There is a possibility of us going to the movie tomorrow, in case anyone is interested in that.

When is the tree-lighting ceremony, anyway?  Is that in Bronson Park, or where?  I’ve never gone, believe it or not….

Type: Family

Time: 6:45 PM

Dates: 11/27/09

Location:
Bronson Park

Description:
The City of Kalamazoo will host their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday November 27, 2009 at Bronson Park.

Children can arrive at the Park early (about 6:15pm) to help the elves decorate the holiday tree before Santa & Mrs. Claus arrive. The Ceremony begins at 7pm when Mayor Bobby Hopewell of the City of Kalamazoo, City Commissioners and other Officials take the stage and read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Attendees are once again encouraged to bring non-perishable canned goods benefiting food pantries in the area. Local rhythm and blues band, the Michigan Nightingales will provide entertainment and the traditional hot chocolate available for those attending the celebration. Proceeds from hot chocolate donations will be given to the YWCA of Greater Kalamazoo’s Domestic Violence Shelter.

The ceremony concludes with the traditional holiday lights “countdown” and the appearance of Santa & Mrs. Claus. After which, they will lead a lantern parade to Santa’s Village in Mall Plaza. Children can visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus there until 8:30pm.

I don’t think we are looking to do it all - but could be fun.

I,m not sure how to arrange the evening, I know Karl wants to see the movie, so we may have to do that by ourselves tomorrow- I am knee deep in toys and bedroom arranging at the moment -blah.

Not going to movie today

Submitted by Herb Tarlick on Fri, 11/27/2009 - 1:34pm.

Not going to movie today (maybe tomorrow late afternoon?), gonna go for a bike ride and then clean up the house a little.  My suggestion for dinner is that we go to OP after the tree lighting thing.   HoJoTro will be there too.  The Mondales have invited me over for post-dinner  fun, I’m sure if any of you all want to check that out too it would be cool.

I like that plan

I think we are going to have to do the movie tomorrow - but are up for dinner and downtown events. I will not be online for the remainder of the afternoon, but I say count us  in.

Hey all - I’ll plan on seeing you all with my crew for the tree lighting! OP afterwards sounds good too - depending on how late the lighting events go, how busy OP is, and how amped Kap’n Jr. is, we’ll see how many of my crew make it that far!

We’ve mentioned the Tree Lighting Ceremony to the boys each year for the past few, with only minimal interest. We will try again this year.

If the same, I’ll try and meet up with peeps at O’Peeps.

I remember this childhood event.

My parents dragged us to the park. I remember sliding on the little hills because there was snow. My brother told me I was sliding on dead Indians.

there are two featurettes  on the Mr. Fox website - very interesting, if you like “the making of” sort of thing.

I loved it, so did Anna.  She has been playing it and making books about it.!
