This is visual-political arts territory. I thought it was interesting.

From the NYT blog of Errol Morris: ” … During the last week of the Bush administration, I asked the head photo editors of these news services — Vincent Amalvy (AFP), Santiago Lyon (AP) and Jim Bourg (Reuters) — to pick the photographs of the president that they believe captured the character of the man and of his administration. …”

And later:
“And I turned to one of my editors — First I said, “Oh, my God.” And
he said, “What?” And I said, “You’ve got to see this picture of Bush. This is really stunning.” And I flipped it over to him to process and his first reaction was, “Wow.” And I said, “If he wasn’t just back there behind that door crying, I don’t know what that look on his face is.” Because he just looks absolutely devastated as he comes through this door after essentially ending his eight year presidency. And it’s just really striking. He just looks absolutely devastated.”

I really love Errol Morris’ movies and his blog on NYT is very good.

I love this quote, it was about the look on W face on 9/11, but it can apply to all 8 years.

“He looks completely blank. He doesn’t understand, really, what’s happened. In the picture we can see his eyes — something very strange has happened; he doesn’t understand. ”
