Thoughts from Andy Oram:
”… the Information Age was surprisingly short. In an age of Wikipedia, powerful search engines, and forums loaded with insights from volunteers, information is truly becoming free (economically), and thus worth even less than agriculture or manufacturing. So what has replaced information as the source of value?
The answer is expertise. Because most activities offering a good return on investment require some rule-breaking—some challenge to assumptions, some paradigm shift—everyone looks for experts who can manipulate current practice nimbly and see beyond current practice. We are all seeking guides and mentors…
We should have rich media that allow people to differentiate themselves through avatars or other indications of personality, and technologies for forums that mix the immediacy of chat with spaces for posting and manipulating files. Culture change is also required: experts have to be willing to guide a new user step by step during explorations of a problem, and the new users have to take correction in good humor.”

Cookies I have eaten this week:
Monday: none. Stupid Mondays.
Tuesday: Two “sugar cookies” with “frosting”. It was later revealed that the “sugar cookies” were pre-made and pre-cut dough purchased at Sam’s Club that you just bake. The frosting was in a tub, Betty Crocker or some such thing. The cookies tasted like burned sugar, although they weren’t burned at all. I put sprinkles on both. It was a work “celebration”. Although there’s a lot of “air quotes”, I really enjoyed the experience.
Wedneday: None.
Thursday: Work potluck included cookies, yay! My office neighbor made star-shaped sugar cookies and put blue icing on them, then displayed them attractively on a tray. How was I to resist? Later, I ate part of another frosted sugar cookie at Richard’s grandma’s nursing home, but did not finish due to the doughy thickness and disappointing taste.
Friday: Yet to be determined. I feel like I should maybe take a day off, or find some other kind of cookie to eat.
I think you should try them, funyons! There’s a lot of them around this time of year.
thak you!

Cookie resistance alert!
I just did NOT eat a cookie in the break room, left over from yesterday’s potluck. It was one of those “lofthouse” ones, but “special” for the holidays with crushed peppermint candy on top. My coworker thought it was delicious. I will check on her later, to make sure she’s still okay.
I am a cookie expert!
Running low on cookies around here.
