Good finds. That Anthony braxton is really great.
This isn't too exciting but i found Beach Boys' "Smiley Smile" at the Otsego Antique mall for $4 in really good condition.
For you comic/toy/comic related toy collector nerds here, the Otsego Antique Mall might be a worthy trip. Stuff was in good condition and reasonably priced. There was also a ton of Monkees memorabilia too.
best score of the three is
best score of the three is absolutely the sir lancelot 10"……lots of social commentary on the influence of the usa on trinidad…..and how its crap…..very cool….the tunes are awesome…..
the braxton lp is noodling around….some pieces are very abstract and others are straight forward jazz….well….straight forward for anthony…..im digging deeply on it….

did they have the short-sleeved sweatshirt printed with monkees cartoons that I always coveted as a kid? My pal Susan had one as a hand-me-down, and she hauled it back out of storage and made it a favorite fashion statement (along with Minnetonka Moccasins) in high school. My lord. Pop art GENIUS>

Yay
since I have purposely been looking for Kinks stuff because of nice suggestions of peoples on here, 3 of them have appeared in my possession.
Useless where did you get
I can't tell you where I got
Hey Mickey, Do you still
Hey Mickey,
Do you still shop-stop there?
Sure he talks a lot of shit, but who doesn't?
Frankly, I like the guy, and I think he's really funny.I'm always a little surprised by the things you're willing to say so publicly about someone you might actually bump into.
Yeah, we had kind words for
Yeah, we had kind words for each other when I was in there the other day.
but, I also had a beer at Bells for the first time in the past week too.
The world is going to hell.
"I'm always a little
"I'm always a little surprised by the things you're willing to say so publicly about someone you might actually bump into
I'm sure the Big Bopper will afford Mickey the same courtesy.
One time i bumped in him at the News Agency several years after being 86ed from his shop he said "Hi there weirdo" and gave me a dirty look.
Tim, does 86'd mean fired or
Tim, does 86'd mean fired or banned? What was the offense?
As far as the "Hi there weirdo" thing goes, that seem right on the money.
sorry brahs, but is this
"does 86'd mean fired or
"does 86'd mean fired or banned? What was the offense?"
Banned. He somehow figured out I bought a $60 record for $2.99. A friendly young man was working the store when the Bopper wasn't there. Since the Bopper doesn't price his records and the friendly young man had know idea what I was buying, he only charged me $2.99. I guess ethically I should have told the kid what it was I had in hand. At the same time I thought of all the times the Bopper jacked up the prices only because he knew it was something i wanted. I eventually learned to keep a poker face and down play what i was buying if the Bopper didn't know what it was.
The Bopper confronted me the next time I went in there. I'm not sure how he figured out it was me but I think he confronted anyone who might have bought that record. I felt a little bad. I had a pretty good run as a customer compared to others. He was genuinley friendly and nice to me for the most part.
Tim, you are WAY too hard on
Tim, you are WAY too hard on yourself here. You had no ethical obligation to tell him anything. You have an ethical obligation not to help yourself to his records and walk out the door without paying but I think it pretty much ends there. If fact, he had a legal responsibility to put a price on the record. I heard recently that it is Michigan law that all items in retail establishments (I'm sure that the B*p St#p pays Michigan sales tax and all that) have to be price marked. Apparently there a pretty hefty fine associated with it as well.
obviously you guys are way
obviously you guys are way nicer than I will ever be. Personally I think John Shephard is the biggest piece of shit I have ever met. I dont shop there anymore because whenever I would go there he would always end up screaming at me. I dont like the way he treats his customers and why is he rude to everyone? That said for some reason I may drop in on him real soon however if he fucks with me I may end up killing the fuck.
Anyhow Useless about the Kinks the first 10 records are the best thats from You Really Got Me to Lola if you dont have all these yet I strongly reccomend getting them
ok maybe I was a bit harsh
ok maybe I was a bit harsh on Shephard, he may not be the biggest piece of shit I have ever met but he is an asshole and I for one do not like to agrue and scream at people so thats why I refuse to shop there. That said if and when I do set foot in his store again and if he gives me any shit(and we all know he will) I just walk.
rubbin' the buddah the wrong way
hobbit
in all fairness to him,
in all fairness to him, there was a record that I wanted badly, and he knew it, and said "This must be worth $100! I'm gonna charge you $1 more for it."
I think this covers the retail price thingee.
Looks muddy though. Somebody with law skills can you interpret?
I don't harbor any ill
I don't harbor any ill feelings toward the guy. I think he's a sleeze and a creep but I generally could tolerate him. Though a drunken lecherous Bopper in my face would be very grody. If it wasn't the incident I experienced, it would have been something else eventually.
That's very interesting about CD Warehouse. I'll give it a peruse.
Oh yeah, I just remembered a funny story. One time my friend Little Jimmy Mac and his wife went to the Stop Bop. Both of them are close to the same size as Mrs. Tree. The Bopper was cracking jokes about their height the whole time and started to get down right mean toward the end of their visit. Jim bought a $3 record and they split. When Jim got home, he noticed on the receipt the Bopper wrote some stuff other than record he purchased. The Bopper wrote "Thanks for nothing Dickhead."
Wow... and I wonder how he
Wow… and I wonder how he can stay in business with customer service like that???
btw- I saw a little naked stack of 45's and some poorly stored vinyl at St. Vincent DePauls today… I almost bought the Alarm VHS from 86' but I couldn't remember if I liked them or not???
das wearhaus
I once asked the feller at CD Warehouse if he had ever thought about carrying used vinyl. He just shrugged his shoulders and mumbled something like "dunno" or "whatever"… not really sure. Looking back now, he may have said "that's bloody brilliant".
I've found the occasional nugget there. I'll give 'em a go.
It's obviously uncool to
It's obviously uncool to treat people that way, and especially dumb when those people are giving you cash for something they don't actually need.
I just have reservations about saying negative things about people I actually know in a public forum like this. Now If I tell Dusty that I think The Kap'n is a pinhead with no sense of humor, that's between Dusty 'n me. If it gets back to The Kap'n, then shame on Dusty, but I can deal with that and know that maybe I shouldn't share so much with Dusty. Even if I don't care what The Kap'n thinks about what I have to say, I wouldn't want to make the whole world think badly about him. He might be the best thing that ever happened to somebody else, or maybe has yet to meet the person that will turn him around. Now if that person reads something bad about Kap'n, maybe they'll steer clear of him and then Kap'n never gets turned around. More people hear the bad stuff/more people talk/more people stay away, Kap'n gets worse, maybe starts poisoning animals or sumpin.
On the other hand, facts are facts. If you've had a bad experience with a retailer, I guess you kinda owe your friends (and maybe even the public) some kind of warning. Chimp's experience is a little different though. He knew he was getting away with something. I would have done the same thing, but it wasn't really fair play. Was it legal? Yes. Was it Bopper's fault for not marking the records, or for leaving someone in charge that didn't know what he was doing? Yes, but, it's not really that different from being handed too much change. Is it your fault that you got too much money back? No. Are you going to tell the cashier? Does it depend on if you actually like the cashier?
Having said that, I too have taken advantage of a Bopperless B*p St*p. I knew it was wrong, but fuck it. Butt fuck it.
Where's Justin? He'd stir the pot.

just to let you all know
just to let you all know that when Useless and Crappor stopped in to see Shephard he told them that he made me the person that I am today, so basically before John Shephard I was nothing now thanks to him I am a usefull member of society so for those of you here who like me be sure to thank Shephard for making me into a good human being.
Dingey I am glad to see that there are others here who feel the same way about John as I do. I went to see that person today and when I mentioned that Useless and Crappor were there he went on a rant about how he should keep his mouth shut and that they are just people nothing more
thats Shephard for you
oh I forgot to mention
Me?
I've stirred the pot enuff in my time! But Mickey does sound pretty aggro about some dude who owns a dirty, little used record store in Portage. Simmer down now, buddy.
As per the issue of Tim buying a record he knows is worth more, in a time like this you have to aske the question,WWND? (What would Neil do?) Neil wouldn't have bought the record if he had the feeling that the kid didn't know the real value of the record. But that's Neil. I'm not so stand up. I probably would have bought it if I didn't know the guy or I didn't like the guy. If I was buds with the guy then I would have said something. I can be a shark.
I sound aggro Justin have
I sound aggro Justin have you ever met John Shephard??
Just Joking
I was just messing around a bit.
And yes, I used to shop at the Bop Stop many, many years back. I never had problems with the guy even though he seemed a bit nervy. But that's the nature of record dealers/collectors. Most of 'em have issues on some level. I like that about record collecting.
I just found it funny that you actually typed in a public forum that you might kill the fuck.
Bopper Is...
(Sorry, Mickey, I just realized you don’t speak in Simpsons references.)
My experience:
I don't really SHOP for records, because someone I love dearly does so much of it. But I started to dread the tag along to the B.S. because of these reasons:
(a) ridiculous pricing "rules" annoy me, as I'm one of those people who figures out the discount and sometimes actually buys things because of the price.
(b) never called me by my given name, but rather the various names of women Senor had dated before me.
(c) despite not knowing my name, much lecherous leering. Yuck.
Yep, 100% Comic Book Guy. I'm sure if he followed the W.W.N.D. principle, it be much more pleasant for all, but, alas, Neil was one of a kind.
Heartbroken Bopper
